County Health Nurse
<1500 is lacking to provide a county health nurse. An anonymous donor gave $500, and the county T-B Association gave $500.
If there’s anything to “charity begins at home,” now is the county’s time to begin. Every year there are drives of various kinds— and they are good ones—for nation-wide charities. Rappahannock county people give to these drives and fine work is done. These works are excellent, and we all know it is the combined efforts of all the folks .in.all the states that have enabled establishment of hospitals for treatment of polio victims, and studies to prevent cancer.
It’s come home now. It’s time to go to work for a local nurse. With two-thirds of the money sitting waiting, we should give the other third, even if it meant cutting dawn on some national charities. If some figures can be located, an exact sum-per-person in the county could be jstated. On a 6067 population, 9 cents per person would more than do it. It’s impossible to get everyone to give, but it shows that a number of small gifts would soon get this remaining sum necessary to give the county the benefits of a county health nurse.

The letter is published with the thought that it may be of help to mothers of other boys just entering the armed forces.
