'January 1, 1901 Rappabaaaaek Ku-Klu* *" It is “reported that “mob law” is prevailing in Broad Hollow, Rappahannock county, near the Madison line, and there no law is supposed to exist except the law of "might.” The Ku-Klux visited a man named___and gave him iwhat they supposed just punishment for his sins, one night during the holidays. It is charged -accompanied by a woman visited a brandy distillery to obtain brandy, when .a party of men caught him and administered to him a sound beating, a later report says that the punishment was severe. Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Cox entertained at Set-Back on Friday evening, the 18th. Three tables were irranged for the players Those taking part were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Wade H. Massie, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Pat Miller, Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Bruce, Mrs. R. R. DeBergh, Messrs. B. R. Cox, C. J. Miller, Jr., D. D. Miller, Eastham Dealing and R. L. Massie. R. L. Massie took off the first prize and Mr. C. T. Brude captured the booby, a full-grown teddy-bear stuffed with fresh roasted peanuts. Refreshments were served and favors presented at the conclusion in keeping with the 22nd.
