Some years back, a survey of some sort was made on schools throughout the nation, and much to Virginia’s chagrin, she came out in 47th place, whereupon some member of the editorial staff of a Richmond newspaper came out with an editorial: “Thank God for Arkansas.” (That was 48th).
According to a recent report of the U. S. Chamber of Com* merce, Virginia now ranks in 39th place in the amount spent per pupil for education last year. The Virginia average was $137 against a national average of $206. That fellow’s editorial will now have to bear the caption: “Thank God for 11 Other States.”
