REVIVAL SERVICES
There will be a revival meeting at the Rappahannock Church of the Brethren,, located in Smedley Hollow, beginning October 22, at 11 a.m., and closing with a love feast on the evening of October 29.
The services will be conducted by Rev. O. R. Hersh of Manassas. Everyone is invited to attend.

Mrs. Lillie Clattei'buck had the misfortune to fall from a tree while picking apples Wednesday morning in the orchard of William Moffett. Mrs. Clatterbuck was was to the office of Dr. Snead, where she was treated for a broken collarbone.

— Forgotten but not gone i» many homes at fall housecleaning time are carpet beetles and clothes moths, say entomologists of the U. S. Department of Agriculture. Spring has so long been the traditional time for the “moth campaign” that many a housewife is unaware that spraying is needed because with modern heating these pests can thrive in winter.
Before winter wools and furs are hung in closets, the closets should be cleaned thoroughly and then walls, baseboards, woodwork and shelves sprayed with a five per cent DDT oil solution. Use a residual spray which leaves an invisible film of DDT on closet surfaces to kill pests coming in contact with it, even several months after application. The so-called aerosol bombs or space sprays do not give lasting protection but do kill insects reached by the insecticide when the aerosol is released.
DDT oil solution may be sprayed lightly on wool clothes without injury to the fabric or to the person who wears the clothes after the spray has evaporated. Use just enough, to moisten the fabric. Apply lightly on both sides of heavy fabrics. Too much of the solution may leave whitish traces on dark wool but these can be brushed or sponged off with drycleaning fluid.
Clothes moths are blamed for much damage done by carpet beetles, the entomologists say. Reports from many parts of the country indicate that the damage caused by carpet beetles is increasing. It is the carpet beetle larvae that do the destructive feeding. These are hardier and move around more than clothes moth larvae, and are killed more slowly by DPT and may not die for several days after exposure to DDT. In spraying against carpet beetles, apply plenty of the solution to cracks in floors and around baseboards rwhere they frequently live. A ID per cent DDT dust blown into cracks gives added protection.
Other tips to fall housecleaners from the entomologists:
Warm air ducts often accumulate dust and fuzz which makes Them ideal feeding and hiding places for the moths and beetles. Before the furnace is turned on for the winter, gratings or other covers over ducts should be removed, the dust cleaned out, and spray applied around the edges.
Choice food for these pests is hair shed qround the house by house dogs or cats. Careful cleaning and spraying under furniture, around baseboards and in floor cracks is recommended. »
The many thousands of letters to federal entomologists from families whose possessions have suffered moth or beetle damage testify to the need of more understanding as to the best methods of combatting these pests and preventing costly waste. ' -
