Jones, H. S. Barksdale, C. H. Estes, J. R. Latham and your county agent spent last Monday journeying to Blacksburg foil the purpose of conferring with, Drs. H. N. Young, Head-Viiginia Agricultural Experiment Station; H. L. Dunton, Head VPI Agronomy Department; and S. S. Qbenshain, Agronomist Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station on the possibilities of getting a complete soil survey made in Rappahannock County.
At present soils are being mappCounties.
In this area, soils of Culpeper, Fauquier, and Loudon Counties have already been surveyed and maps completed. Just where experiment station crews go next depends largely on interest shown by the people of the counties concerned. " - ■ * ■
The Rappahannock delegation found the VPI men in charge of, this work very receptive but quite stubborn in committing themselves on where the states money for this work would next be spent as they want to do so where the results will be used. Thus it is going to take a lot of hammering on our part to get a soil survey. We certainly found out that its going to require a lot more than one trip and one letter of request.
Consequnetly the Rappahannock group asked the Agronomy Department and Experiment Station personnel to conduct a “Soils Tour” in the county during the second week of .Tu-ly for the pur— pose of teaching a few of her leading farmers, businessmen, and agricultural workers something about her soils.*
In short a soil survey is the classifying of soils within a given area according to type. Type depends on the nature of the parent

LADIES AUXILIARY TO SPONSOR PROGRAM
On Thursday evening, April 17, at 7:30 p.m., the Ladies Auxilary of the Rappahannock Fire Department, is sponsoring the following program* “Carry Me Back To Ole Virginny” and a Magician show. In addition Miss Florence Fitzgerald of Washington, D. C. on behalf of the Rappahannock Hunt, will show a reel of the Point-toPoint Races which were held at Lee-Way Farm, home 6f Mr. and Mrs. Leon T. Greenaway, March 8. Admission will be 35c and 20c.
