Virginia egg prints strengthened
only slightly from mid-May tq midJune, and prices of all chickens were down by 3ic a pound.
R. J. Krueger, poultry marketing specialist at VPI, said “all chickens’* include broilers, fryers, heavy hens, light hens, etc. Th£ average mid-June price of broilers and fryers in the Roanoke area was L3c a pound less than the average in May. In the Winchester area the price was .7c a pound more, in the Richmond area.9c and in the Shenandoah area. 1.3c a pound more than in May.
Heavy hen prices in each of these four areas were below the May prices ranging from a drop of 1.1c a pound in the Roanoke area to 3.5c in the Richmond area. Leghorn hen prices were also down_in each of—those - areas. The price drop ranged from .2c to 1.4c. Eggs were up only ,5c from May.
