Pvt. Whorton Completes
Basic Training
Pvt. Ervin H. Whorton, son of Mrs. Lillie Whorton of Ainissville, recently completed his basic training with- the 5th Infantry . Division in Indiantonn Gap, Pennsylvania.
His 16-week course with the famed 7 th "Red Diamond” Division was conducted by combat-toughened vets of World War II and Korea.
He was instructed in the use of conventional light anti heavy infantry weapons as well as such recentlydeveloped weapons as the 75-mm. recoilless rifle. Squad and platoon _tactics,-livi;ig in the field, and pro— tective measures against atomic warfare were also included in his training. '
