The first microscopist, Leeuwenhoek, a janitor by trade, looked through simple magnifying lences in the 17th Century. ■ Today’s microseopists employ the electron microscope, an instrument so fine that the largest‘bit of matter that can be examined in it must be fio'micre than 1/25,000 of an inch thick. Through it, germs can be enlarged to the size of a pea. Your druggist uses a compound microscope to see the crystals of substances and to note the unseeable-to-tha-human-eye effects of drugs on living tissue and microbes. It takes a trained eye to use a microscope.
