Senator Byrd worked for an amendment to make the Social Security program sound. He voted against the 1935 bill because tt did not provide safeguards -for the workers savings. In 1939 and 1450 he voted for the expanded program.
(x) FOR AAA. SOIL CONSERVATION v
Senator Byrd strongly supported House BUI 8505 establishing the AAA program which passed the Senate February 14 1938 and also the SoU Conservation Act which became law February 19. 1938.
(X) FOR RURAL ELECTRIFICATION
Senator Byrd has always been a strong supporter of REA. He supported the REA Act of May 20, 1936; ' the Reorganization Plan of July 1, 1939; the Loan Liberalizing Act of September 21, 1944; and the REA Telephone Act of October 28, 1949.
