Amissville Firemen
Count Festival ■
As Encouragement
September 26 and 27 will be remembered by the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department, and the Ladies Auxiliary thereof; as the happy culmination of a mid-summer night’s dream—a dream born of anxiety one early June evening for the security ’^of community property against fireravage. Several damaging fires had recently occurred.
Thus, the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department came into being. It has made rapid progress in a short time, even to the point of sponsoring a Firemen’s Festival the past weekend. And the events of this affair have l)cen both heartening and highly gratifying. The little hamlet of Amissville has been almost stunned by the public response to its Festival efforts.
On Friday evening, some 2,000 patrons of good will gathered into its Festival enclosure to enjoy the good food, fun, and concessions of carnival fame—the musical merry-goround, the rollicking kiddy-car rides, the real back-to-the-saddle rides on cow-boy saddles girthed to sturdy Shetland ponies, and the favorite old munch—munch of the popcorn stand. Then, too, there was the attraction of the new 1952 Ford Sedan on display.
