Time Nov To Sign For 1953
Conservation Program
From now until November 30 farmers of Rappahannock County will have an opportunity to sign requests for assistance under the 1953 Agricultural Conservation Program, according to H. S. Barksdale, chairman of the PM A County Committee.
He said that the plan for conducting the program on a “farm-by-farm” basis, which was tried out in Amelia County in 1952, will be in effect in all Virginia counties this year. The purpose of that procedure is to center conservation efforts on the practices most needed on each individual farm.
To assure the most effective use of the ACP assistance that will be available to Rappahannock County for 1953. Mr. Barksdale said that community committeemen, who were elected on August 29, will conduct a field survey. In a personal on-farm discussion With the farm • operator, the plan for ^carrying out the most effective practices for each farm will be developed. The PM A Committeemen will give each operator at that time a chance to sign up for 1953 ACP assistance.
The Chairman noted that “the amount of aid will vary with the need, the size and type of farming operation, and in acordance the amount of money which Rappahannock County is allocated.” He aded that “Local farmers find that ACP is an incentive to carry out far more soil and water conservation that that Jfor which they receive assistance in part.” -
Conservation plans already developed by any ofy the other county agricultural agencies will be considered in setting up a farm’s 1953 conservation program, Mr. Barksdale said.
