But, Saturday evening broke all expectations. Imagine Amissville with 5,000 people to entertain! They came, they stayed until midnight, they left in a happy mood—an orderly, jovial crowd throughout. What did they see? Asid^ from all the entertainment in the enclosure, they saw an unique parade of Volunteer FireFighters from seven neighboring towns, and that of Amissville, too, leading the parade. This display of Fire Equipment was judged and awards placed for excellence of turn-out by Judges from the Washington, D. C. Fire Department, with the results indicated below:
Orange—Best Fire Equipment for town use.
Warrenton — Best Special Fire Equipment.
The Plains—Best Country Fire Equipment.
Elkton—Best Firemen’s Spirit— coming longest distance.
Culpeper—Best Firemen’s Uniforms.
Sperryville—Best Aged Apparatus in use.
Round Hill—Best Equipment in its class.
Amissville—Last but not least, best effort to get-going.
Those who so ably judged this event were: Chief Cpnroy and Lieut. Peel of Washington, D. C. Fire Departmen t; William Price of American Federation of Fire- Fighters Association; and Chief Boswell of Washington, D. C. Fire Department aided the judges in deciding the ratings and awards.
It must be said that the Amissville Firemen’s Festival has been a great uccess and a boon to the efforts previously made. The treasurer, being a busy man, has not yet made public the net amount of the funds received. This will be known and published shortly. However, four figures will be needed to express the returns, and that, together with generous donations previously ° made by publicspirited citizens. A plot of land for the fire house, a quantity of cinderblocks f«r the building, a number of v sizeable cash donations and considerable lumber will enable our builders to proceed.
