it. M. Jones presided at the Saturday meeting and «tried to turn his duties over to L. R. Hudson when that gentleman was renamed president. Mr. Hudson, beginning his ninth year as president of the company, commented that Mr. Jones was getting along so well he might as wellcontinue. L. R. Hudson,, who has been president since *the death of Wade H. Massie, states that none of. the original directors with whom he served is left.
Wade H. Massie, Jr., was named vice-president, with C. J. Miller Jr., re-named secretary-treasurer.
The entire list of directors was renamed : Robert L. Brown, R. L. Miller, B. R. Miller, C. E. Johnson, Jr., and L P. Cook,. Tht hi*# vke-presldeht also' as directors.
One problem that confronts the small mutual fire company was discussed, that of the large companies objecting to the small rates charged, and attempts have been made to legislate against the small companies. Mr. Hudson said that he explained, the low rates on one of his trips to> Richmond on the company’s business. Someone asked him how the Rappahannock company could charge such low insurance fates. “That’s easy,” replied Mr. Hudson, “See all this fancy office you are working in, with all these fancy desks and expensive equipment? Well, in Rappahannock we hold our business meetings on the Courthouse lawn under the maple trees if the weather is good, and if it’s bad weather We go in the Courthouse. We don’t have a lot of expensive overhead.”
Three new members of the company were recognized in attendance at the meeting: Frank H. Cary, who is a returned memlier, and Mr. Pearman and Mr. Slavik, both new members from Amissville neighborhood.
