defy description, but imagination can easily picture the problem of a teacher trying to teach two grades to 40 students in a roorp that was meant to seat 20. She can’t get around to all the work that should be done—there just plain isn’t time enough—and she is unhappy about her work. Any teacher likes to see her work going along well, and if the students aren’t learning as she thinks they should, then her work isn't pleasant.
It isn’t that the teacher doesn’t want to teach—she can't, for there isn’t time to get ar&utid to the individual needs of 40 children in a day.
One- of the sadest outcomes of Friday night's meeting probably will be the futility that will greet those who try to solve the problem to improve the schooling. Nothing can be done now, with the Surpreme Court -decision pending on the segregation question.
The needs throughout the county are manifold. A new high school is needed, so badly and so obviously that there is no use to bring it up again. There's a crowded situation in a room at Amissville school, and also at Reager school.
The Sperryville school gives the appearance of being nearly perfect, ibut that is because of comparison with the other schools in the county. The truth is, Sperryville, also, is crowded. %
The situation is indeed an unhappy one.
