Some of us may not agree with Westbrook Pegler. (I've heard one fellow say he reads the column just to give his temper a workout.) But Pegler cut loose Tuesday on man’s laziness, citing the ridiculous occasions of so many declared holidays. He noted that' in New York City, which Mr. Pegler says is not a rich city, hut a poor one, a recent holiday of one day cost the city $550,000.
Quoth the gentleman:
“The thing to do when you are broke is not to ,work less but more; not to waste money but to save it. No municipal employee ever died of overwork on 48 hours a week and the 40-hour, five-day week is a device of the devil invented by tiie union rackets under cover of the Roosevelt panic to spread the work.
