J. E. Elimore, of Amissvilk, was among (hose attending the meeting of the Virginia Branch of the National Star Route Mail Carriers in Petersburg, April 12.
The tiiain discussion at hand for this meeting concerned the newly proposed plan of puting star route carriers back x>tx the former bidding system, whereby the routes were bid for by individuals. Through the years star carriers have,had their contracts for four years at a time and have built the carriers up to the point where they have what they consider a living wage. Public Law 669, enacted in 1948, gave the postmaster general the right to renew the contract of any carrier whose work had 'been satisfactory without putting out the competitive 'bidding.
There were 106 star route carriers present af this meeting, including officers from Maryland; Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
