William W. Miller Wins ,
V.M.I. Student Award
William W. Miller, son of president G. Tyler Miller, of Madison College, Harrisonburg, has been selected as a Distinguished Military Student in the class of 1954 at the Virginia Military Institute, at Lexington.
Cadet Miller was one of 27 second classmen at Virgina Military Institute, who have been designated Distinguished Military Students. The selection is based upon aptitude, intelligence, attitude, efficiency, and ether leadership qualities desired of a commissioned officer in the United States Army. Records of personal conduct, ability to get along with fellow cadets, and academic and military science grades are all taken nto consderaton.
Lt. Col. Henry C. Kerlin, in releasing the first of Distinguished Mili tary Students, pointed out that after the cadets have been selected by heads of the various departments, the tentative list is submitted to the Superintendent of the Academy few approval and then published. Cadet Miller attended public schools in Richmond before enrolling at V.M.I. *
