Town of Washington Calls

Traffic Problem Meeting

During the last few days, citizens of the Town of Washington have made complaints to the Council in regard to reckless driving, excessive speed, and shooting of fire arms in the incorporated limits.

Since the problem of reckless driving is not only a local one but also extends throughout the county we are inviting* State Troopers, County Sheriff and 'Deputy to offer suggestions for corrective measures at a town meeting Friday night, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. on the Bank Lot. It is hoped that all citizens in town will attend this meeting and air their views on proper steps to correct the situation. SECTION 33-287 Code of Virginia 1950, covering the shooting of firearms state as follows: “Shooting in or along road or in a street. If any person shoots in or along any road, or within one hundred yards thereof, or ip a street of any city or town, whether the town be incorporated or not, he shall, for each offense, be fined not less than five dollars.”
