Demon Fire knows no eight hour working shift. Each hour of every day it watches its chance to ignite its destructive spark. Some one must be on call always to halt its spread. THE FIREMEN ARE. To best combat this public enemy the firemen, organized into a working unit, must have good modern equipment. Only recently a foam fire-fighting attachment for the fire truck has been purchased by the Rappahannock Volunteer Fire Company in order to better conquer gasoline and oil fires.
But to have this necessary equipment this organization, like all others, must have funds. After much thinking the firemen have hit upon an idea which best suits their purpose—serving the people and simultaneously raising funds. They have decided to put on a local carnival. Wait!—don’t lay the paper down with “another one of those; . . just take all the money out of the county.” This is different. All parts of the carnival will be operated by the Firemen and the Auxiliary. It will be entirely a “local enterprise.” The concession stands, which will be built by,, the firemen \yill jj>e saved for future local carnivals.
Money is needed to build these stands. Every donation will be appreciated, no matter how small. Like the old darkie, who when asked what he needed, summed up his condition with . . “Lawsy, chile, I needs ever’thing from my overcoat in; from my hat down.” These contributions can be given to T. C. Lea, L. V. Merrill or Rappahannock News. Please make them quickly as the firemen are anxious to begin construction.
This is your fire company at work. They are raising funds to buy equipment for the better protection of your property and your family.
