Willis Robertson, 100; former Gov. John S. Battle, 94; Stephen T. Mitchell, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, ,89; Congressman Tuck, 85; Senator Byrd, 81; Governor Stanley, 73. O O rt ^ With election day only six weeks -off it istime to make comparisons between a man who has spent the greater portion of his life serving the citizens of Virginia—in the State Legislature, in the House of Representatives and in the U. S. Senate. Or a man vvho has only in the past few years moved into the State, and has spent a number of years out- of the United States, and out of touch with the needs of the people he now is asking to represent.

We would like to know what the men . on the Washington town council did—:if anything—prior to 1950. According to the report of the accomplishments of the ladies, furnished us this week, nothing of importance could have been done. Everything must have been left for the ladies. Of course, the town did have a Town Hall, the streets were all paved, there was a water system, street lights, street marker signs, financial assistance given to the Washington Volunteer Fire Department, $3,000.00 in a savings account, $1,333.89 on a checking account. But, really none of that is worth mentioning in comparison to the 48 accomplish-' v ments enumerated by the ladies’ report. . o o o o
We wish we could let you know the number of Sunday Schools in this county, but that would take up too much space, so we are going, to mention just a few: The \r Washington Methodist Sunday School, organized this year and having a wonderful meeting every ) Sunday; the Mount Salem Sunday C School, (organized last Sunday. , - And the Episcopal Sunday School, to be started in the very near future. Do you want any better , proof that our county is a wideawake and prospering county? We feel that every community has a need for as many denominational Sunday Schools, &a there are denominations in the community, - , and’each one has its place and need."" ' v - ' need. Therefore we look with pride at these'three nefr Sunday Schools.
