Madison County is holding its first yearling steer sale at Culpeper at 3:30 p.m. on October 1.
With organized outlets of this, sort coming along it might be worth your while to buy feeder steer calves at the fall or spring sales and cash in on them the following fall. These sales, are packaging their offering *in a manner similar to our Feeder Calf Sales with which you are familiar. Then too the Rappahannock Angus Feeder Calf Association will have about 100 yearling steers to offer at their sale on October 12 at Front Royal Livestock Market.Our producers of grass finished steers need no longer go to North Carolina or into southwestern Virginia to purchase their feeders. With continuing dry weather we can expect more Vitamin A trouble in sheep this year. Results of such a shortage are: Premature lambs, or if carried the normal length of time, they may be born dead or very week and die shortly after birth. The best winter sources of Vitamin A are: winter pastures, yellow corn, and green leafy legume hay. If these are not available then feed a Vitamin A Supplement before and after lambing with the grain ration. -
If you plan to buy ewes in the next few weeks, buy them bred. Sheep are a mighty good livestock investment.
Now is the time to market hogs weighing 180-200 lbs. Additional gairis usually means less profit.
