CARVER BAND WINS SECOND PLACE IN FIREMEN’S PARADE The Carver High School Band participated in the Annual Labor Day Firemen’s Parade in Gordonsviile, Virginia on September 6, 1954. This makes the second consecutive year that Carver Band has taken a part in this type event. Last year the band won first place. However, due to the tremendous rebuilding program we were only able to win second prize this year.
Mr. Sampson, Band Director, stated that, “he is very proud of both the beginning and the advanced bands, and that he anticipates great possibilities from both groups.’’ The beginning an^ advanced bands have sixty arid forty members respectively.
It is hoped that the public will take great interest in the band this year and that more opportunities will be given for participation.
Mr. C. C. Lewis and his daughters and sons, Misses Mae E. and Betsy Lewis, Berkley and Richard spent Sunday in Washington, D.
James D. Russell of Washington, D. C. spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Roberta Russell. Rev. and Mrs. Chester Murry and son, Michael of Arlington were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Richardson. Mr. and Mrs. James Fletcher and children of Pa. were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Fletcher. v; ■ ■ Mr. William Porter is home, after staying in the hospital for 7 weeks.
