Thaadeus Herndon told the “Story of Jesus”, in and around the village of Flint Hill. In fact, it was he who encouraged Alfred Dearing, Braxton Eastham, Anson Dearing, James Moore and a few others to erect in the village of Flint Hill, a house to the honor and glory of God. And. so on the 20th of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three Alfred Dearing and his wife in consideration of the sum of one dollar conveyed to Anson Dearing, James Moore, Edward Dearing, Willis Dearing and Braxton Eastham trustees for the Baptist Society in Flint Hill and to their successors in office forever a certain parcel of land now commonly known as the Baptist Church lot. The same to be used and kept as a place of public worship for their proper use and benefit of their successors forever.
James Moore consented to oversee the building of the house and freely gave of his time arid the labor of his slaves. Anson Dearing gave a considerable sum of money that the house might be erected. And we have reason to believe the church was finished the following year. For on September 28th,/T854 the covenant was written and signed.
