For 50 years certain power companies have owned about 18,000 acres of land for power development in this area. They say it is much cheaper to produce power with coal because of the fluctuating flow of the river.
A leading farm magazine has predicted that in from 5 to 10 years we won’t have a surplus of farm produce and forest products. Your farm and timber land will pay annual dividends if you keep it; but if you sell it to he flooded* that is the last of it. “You can shear a sheep every year, but you can skin him only once.’’
I urge those of you opposed to this dam to write Representative Howard W. Smith, Senators Harry F. Byrd, and A. Willis Robertson, and ' any other Congressman you think might help. Also you may write the “Committee on Public Works),” of the House and Senate, and Representative Clarence Cannon, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.
I declare the whole project a waste of public money.
