Monday. •On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. George A. Nether* drove to Charlottesville to visit her unde, J. H. Coppedge, who is confined to the University Hospital with a broken hip. While there they also visited other relatives. Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Quaintance and her sister, Miss Elsie Ramsey were guests on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Barton P. Quaintance and family in Frcderisksburg. The Quaintances’ other son, Dr. Rupert, joined them for a celebration honoring Mrs. Quaintance, Senior’s birthday. Mrs. Jennie Miller and her sister, Miss Lizzie were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. S. Rapley Shackleford of “Montpelier” in the F. T. Valley; other guests included Mrs. Olney Thornhill of Culpeper and Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Wood of “Erin.” Miss Jean Kilby spent Sunday afternoon visiting Miss Joyce Burke of Boston. On Sunday afternoon, Mrs. Robert A. Brown enjoyed a call from Mrs. William Partlow and her daughter, Kaye of Culpeper, and Mrs. Alice Brown of Madison.
Those from Slate Mills attending Home Demonstration Club Achievement Day on Wednesday at Amissville included Mrs. C. B. Dorsey, Mrs. Joseph Powers, Mrs. Robert Boyd, Mrs. A. L. Weaver and Mrs. W. W. Kennedy.
Mrs. George W. Thornhill will entertain at a Stanley party in hei home Friday evening.
Firemen Honored Amisville Banquet
The Second Annual Banquet of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department was given for the Firemen and their friends by the Auxiliary of the Department at the Fire Hall in Amissville at 7:30, Friday, March 18.
A thoroughly delicious dinner was served in a most delightful setting of candlelight and Spring flower^ to more than seventy firemeniand their guests. Representatives of the Departments and Auxiliaries of Washington, Flint Hill, Sperryville, (Culpcper, Warrenton. Orange, Brandy, Remington, Madison, and The Plains were present as were Cecil Marsden, Assistant Director of the Office of Civil Defense of Virginia, E. G. Brown, formerly of Metropolitan Police, Reverend H. G. Thach of the Amissville Methodist Church, Dr. J. R. Boldridge, State Trooper Lowman and'Giles Miller of the Culpeper National Bank.
Music during dinner was furnished by Mrs. Jack Pearman,
