When a County agent’s job ceases to be essentially one of “helping people to help themselves” I hope to be out of the picture. In the process of ‘[helping people to help themselves” committees are selected who are considered leaders in their particular field of agrculture. Rappahannock’s H o r t i c u 1 tirre Committee, after carefully considering the facts on apple tree numbers, ages and varieties, decided some fall lifting was in order. . that Rappahannock orchardists should destroy 63,146 apple trees by 1969! That would mean cutting trees off approximately 140 acres per year for the next ten years.
