Fire Companies ': V
•in 1947 the County oh "Kipp*- " bannock had one fire company, which, was located in the town of - Washington and had been organised in 1936. At present L. V. Merrill is Chief and Morgan Johnston secretary-treasurer. They have a fire house with hall and kitchen. The Auxiliary to the Washington /Fire Company is a very active organization.
A Rescue Squad was formed in 1950 and an ambulance purchased which has been most beneficial to the community. Frank Huff is the 'Captain of the Squad. To date the county boasts five fire companies, three that were organized in the past ten years. ; The Sperryville Fire Company , was organized in 1947 with about 25 members. They started with an army surplus truck which they later sold and bought a 1937 Ford truck from the Warren ton Fire Company.
