This week County Agent, W. H. Lyne, has been showing Rappahannock shepherds how they can increase receipts from market iambs as much as 50% at little or no extra cost. Lyne says this increased income can primarily be had through more orderly marketing and breeding.
A study of 1178 lambs marketed by Rappahannock producers in 1959 shows 53% were sold too light to make the top slaughter grades while 60% were marketed during months when prices were lowest.
