Sunday, January 29_Barron and O’Brien called this afternoon and delivered me a letter from T. Jeff Page, dated January 25, C.S. S. Stonewall, seacoast of France: Page asks that we will not expect too much of them. He fears that the power and effect of this steamer has been too much exaggerated. “We will do our best”_No doubt of this, for he is a good officer and a high-strung Southern patriot_ none more so, and he has a fine set of young officers with him. God speed and protect them! May His blessing be upon them and crown their efforts with full success. My dear boy Sam, is one of them_God bless you, my noble boy.

It was not unusual for father and son both to wear the grey, but they were not always able to see each other from time to time.
