Learned recently my recommendations for heptachlor used in controling alfalfa weevil need clarification. It seems 30-40 pounds heptachlor per acre had been suggested. The reference was 2% granular hptafchlor; my recommendation would have been more accurate had I specified 0.65 lbs. to 1.0 lbs.of actual heptachlor per acre. Fertilizers are mixed to provide 2 lbs. of actual heptachlor per ton (in low analysis) and 4 lbs. per ton in high analysis fertilizers such as 0-18-36. , Application should be made after harvesting the last cutting and before October 15th. Do not pasture animals on ' treated alfalfa fields until after the first cutting next spring.
