Hunting Accidents

So far this season, 30 Virginia hunters have received injuries from hunting accidents, according to records of the Virginia Game Commission. Five of these mishaps resulted in fatalities. Careless handling of weapons and mistaking other hunters for game were the main causes.
A deer hunter was wounded in the arm and stomach when an un' identified hunter apparently mistook him for a deer and fired. Another deer hunter was wounded in several places when a hunter mistook him for a deer and sprayed him with a load of buck shot. A third hunter was seriously wounded when two buck shot plowed into his body, one' striking his heart. The hunter who fired the shot mistook the victim for a deer.
A rifle .slipped from the hands of one deer hunter and struck a rock, causing it to discharge and wounded the hunter in the arm. A small game hunter was killed by a charge of shot which struck him in the head when he stumbled and fell, causing his shotgun to discharge. A shotgun wound in the chest proved fatal for a grouse hunter who stumbled and fell on his weapon. A defective safety and careless procedure resulted in a shotgun wound when a hunter leaned his gun against a fence then bumped it as he climbed over, causing it to fire.
