hog growers? don’t appear to be planning big increases. Spring farrowing intentions show only a moderate three per cent increase over last spring and increases in hogs on hand in the Corn Belt states are not too large and are partly offset by the rest of the nation.
Virginia farmers, for instance, farrowed three per cent fewer sows in the fall and intend to farrow about the same number this spring as last.
Hogs in Richmond last week were $17.75 to $18.25 with Southeast Virginia markets at $17.50 to $18. Virginia auction average was $18.25. Baltimore was $18.50 to $18.75, Chicago-Indianapolis $17 to $18 and St. Louis $17 to $17.75.
