Apple Crop Drops
From Last Year
A drop of about one half million bushels from last year’s apple crop is likely this year in Virginia. Growers are well along with their spray program, trying to bring in a good crop of fruit. They anticipate a harvest of around ten million bushels.
'Hail has caused some damage in various areas, and some varieties, particularly Winesap, have set light. The important Rappahannock area is reported to be especially light, with only a few heavy crops in the county.
Nationally the apple crop is estimated at 121,954,000 bushels, compared with 125,510,000 bushels last year, but western production will be up, particularly in the state of Washington.
