Largent a Winchester attorney was second in the race. He polled only about half as many votes as did Marsh.
In a statement following his victory, Mr. Marsh said, “I want to thank all of the many people who have voted for and supported me, and especially those many folk who took an active part in the campaign. I feel that this is their victory as much as mine.
I also feel that the other candidates waged vigorous and streneous campaigns marked by fairness, and thereby themselves "made a valuable contribution to Virginia political affairs.
“I am especially grateful to my district campaign manager, Marvin Ham, of Staunton, and my district campaign co-ordinator, Leo Snarr of Woodstock, for the outstanding job they did in organizing and 'running my campaign.”
In Rappahannock County all except one district, Hampton, in which the town of Washington is located, went for Marsh. ’Tally is as follows:
