Under the Department of Defense Community Fallout Shelter Survey Program for Virginia two public shelters in Rappahannock County have been designated by the department as adequate under the standards now set. These shelters are located in the basements of Vierling’s Warehouse in Flint Hill, Virginia and Lea Brothers Store in Washington, Virginia. Licenses were obtained from the owners of the two buildings during the past two weeks, and many thanks are due them in providing for the general public the use of their facilities. Steps are now being taken to equip the shelters with shelter stocks and equipment for emergency needs. The sole purpose of these shelters is to provide a temporary shelter for members of the general public during and after any and every actual or impending attack.
