Mayor Davis continued that “now that the town needs the money and the council has stated their intent of exercising this right, then their civic responsibility is questioned. It is the same old problem of each form of government relinquishing bits of authority to the next highest level of government (no matter how worthy) until it has all reached the level of Federal Government and then we all shout about the evils of big government, when it was brought about by the lesser forms of government following the course of least resistance and succumbing to pressure to do the nice thing.”
Mrs. B. M. Miller stated she thought the town belonged to all people in the county and her thought was that it needed to be kept well and decent I v. Everyone has a stake in the town.
When the question of how much money the town needed and for what, the mayor stated it was needed for the water system, for removal of snow from streets, as at times they were a real hazard. The water system is now in the hands of receivership, so water fees cannot be raised. The System is now twenty years old and when it gives out, gurney would be needed for a new one. -
