Deerproofing Beagles
Ask the average rabbit hunter what he thihks of the deer situation and in an uppublishable blast he will tell you that there are too many of the cotton picking things. Plagued by the scarcity of his quarry, he has spent too many precious hunting hours trying to convince his beagles that they are not deer hounds. We picked up a good deerproofing prescription in the barber shop last week. Fill a steel drum with commercial deer scent, place one or two deer chasing beagles in the drum, fasten the top on firmly and roll it down a long, steep hill: This remedy is recommended only in areas where the S. P.C. A. is inactive.
Quail Season Closes Feb. 15
As January disappeared from Old Dominion calendars, quail hunters only could take to the fields, and they east of the Blue Ridge only. But in most of our quail country a light snow covered the hunting grounds and already one of the 13 additional quail hunting days was eliminated. However as this is being written a warm rain is washing away the snow and once it abates conditions should be ideal for bird hunters and birdy dogs. The season ends February 15.
