Mr. John F. Bowman, Red Cross Chairman for Funds and Members, opened the 1963 Campaign with the reminder to the Board of Directors of the Fauquier Chapter, meeting together February 13th at the Warrenton Headquarters, that 1963 is the 100th Anniversary of the Red Cross. A film was shown depiciting the agony of the uncared for, wounded and dying soldiers on the battlefield of Solferino, the haunting sight of which prompted the Swiss, Henri Dunant, to begin the program of mercy which was the birth of the Red Cross. Eightyeight nations are now signatories of the Geneva Conventions, co-operating in all parts of the world in aiding the victims of War, earthquakes, hurricanes, Jloods and fires. The American Red .. Cross activities in our own 4 country were also shown. Mr. Bowman described the responsibilities facing the District Chairmen. The success of the campaign depends upon them. iHe spoke of how the area of Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties differ from Metropolitan areas because of the scattered population centers and hoped everyone would aid the Field Workers, by sending in their contribution upon receipt of
