The homemaker’s dream of tomorrow - of perishable foods that can be stored on the kitchen shelf with little deterioration or loss of quality is a reality today, according to Dorothy H. Smith, county home agent. Freeze-drying, the newest food processing method, allows foods like shrimp, chicken, mushrooms, even hamburger, to be stored without refrigeration for as long as two years -- with little change in shape, color, or taste, she adds.
