I concur with reports from sheepmen attending the Sheep Clinic that George Allen and Dr. Van Dresser spelled out most clearly practical sheep husbandry practices that increase net profits.
In his introductory remarks George Allen stated records show Virginia sheepmen averaged marketing 111 lambs from 100 ewes kept (Rap’hannock’s average was almost 10% lower.) Also the average gross return per ewe in value of lambs, wool, and incentive payments, was $24 or a labor income of $1.80 per hour.
In contrast flocks enrolled in the Returns Per Ewe Contest: market 144 Iambs from every 100 ewes, had a gross return of $37.90 per ewe amounting to $4.60 return per hour of labor. This did not include incentive payments. Rsppahan
