The Virginia Telephone and Telegraph Co. each year honors employees having outstanding safety records. This year, S. E. Brown, District Plant Superintendent and District Safety Chairman, Front Royal, announced the company has named 20 Front Royal employees who will receive this award for their safety record during 1962. The awards, which were presented to the employees, j were in the form of gold, j silver and white certificates j and are signed by Judson ! Large, President of the com- ! pany. The presentation of \
these awards is made accord- j ing to the number of accident j
free years. The Gold Certifi- j cate represents ten or more accident free years worked by an employee; Silver Certif* icates represent five to nine years; and White Certificates less than five years. Mr. Brown stated that employees' safety is the first consideration in adopting con* struction, maintenance and removal methods and establishing specifications for equipment and tools and ma- ! terials. He further stated that he was very happy to announce the Company Training and Safety School has proven beneficial to the employees and that it is the employee's constant awareness of safety practices which prevents the accident. Mr. Brown presented the Gold Certificate to J. B./ Compton, District Manager/ the most outstanding company employee who received this award for 28 years with out an accident.
