Based upon 1962 long distance volumes, it is estimated that the proposed new rates frill mean annual savings' of $30 million dollars to telephone users.
The “After 9” interstate rate is patterned after a similar intrastate schedule applicable to station-to-station calls which was effective in April, 1962. “Concurrently with the introduction of the new interstate ‘After 9’ rate,” Mr. Cole said, “the intrastate after 9 rate schedule will be revised to include station-tostation third number and collect calls. These calls will continue to be billed a $.15 charge which has been applicable in the past.”
The last reductions of interstate rates occurred in 1959 when they were cut by $50 million dollars in annual savings. These reductions in long distance rates are the result of continual research and other efficinecies introduced to make telephone service faster, better and lower in cost.
