Letter to Editor

I would like to say “Amen* to the recent letter to the Editor regarding the dumping of trash along Rappahannock County roads and streams. At one time there was a beautiful swimming hole by an old mill beside a bridge near Woodvllle. People drove many miles to enjoy this scenic spot and have a dip in the Thornton River. Today its once lovely banks are a littered mass of garbage and trash -- a dumping ground for somebody’s filth. To passover the bridge now is to view with disgust the ungrateful manner in which our County’s rivers have been despoiled. The pollution of. the water makes swimming impossible, and the ever accumulating trash turns a scenic attraction into a sickening sight. We should start a vigorous “Clean Up Our County" campaign. Litterbug laws should be made and rigidly enforced. In the meantime is there any way in which we can clean up the existing eyesores? Perhaps we could mobilize our own version of a clean-up brigade Youth Corps. Let’s keep Virginia green and CLEAN! ’
