Marsh Offers Bill To Aid Fire Co’s
Rep. John 0. Marsh, Jr., has offered in Congress a bill to permit donation of surplus federal supplies and equipment to volunteer fire companyies.
At present, such material may be donated, under certain conditions, through state authorities, to educational institutions, hospitals and civil defense units.
Volunteer fire departments are not eligible except to the extent that they may be involved in official civil defense programs.
“Surplus federal items these days are limited in number and usefulness,” Mr. Marsh ! commented, “but the essential community protective and assistance services performed by the volunteer fire departments certainly warrant their inclusion in any program of preferential disposal”.
The Marsh bill (H. R. 5221) was referred to the House Committee on Government Operations.
