The scene of carnival activity in the county has shifted to Amissville where firemen are preparing for the four .-night fund raising event held each year in August. The carnival opens Wednesday, August 14 and continues through Saturday, August 17. The highlight for opening night is a display of fireworks along with the thrilling rides, games, amusements and good home baked food found there every carnival season. Thursday night a maipouth parade will begin at 7 p.m. with floats, fire and rescue squad equipment, marching units, majorette groups, bands, beauty queens and honorary fire chiefs. A plate supper will be available on the grounds that evening. “Miss Amissville Fire Company" will be crowned Friday night, chosen from the eight contestants participating. Identity of the queen is not disclosed until time for the coronation, however, the three top contestants at, press time are Diane Sisk, Mable Glascock and Becky Cooper, in that order.
