Immediately upon employment on a conditional basi% the trooper receives the pres snt full entry pay of $5*40Q
per year, which can be increased to 7,032 through six annual steps. All uniforms and equipment are supplied, as well as one meal each duty day. Promotion to sergean and above is considered as vacancies arise. Although on call at all times, & trooper generally works five 8-hour tours of duty per week. Maximum vacation is 18 duty days, with 11 holidays, and ample leave with pay is provided for illness. A trooper first works for a minimum of 30 days in the field with an experienced man before attending 18 weeks of basic training at Administra tive Headquarters in Richmond. He is then assigned to his permanent duty post.
Present uniformed strength of the Department is 785, which will be increased to 835 with the newly authorized positions.
