Clean-up Week Here
Paint-up, Clean-up Fix-up time for the Town of Washington will start this Saturday and continue through next Saturday April 23rd. On the last day Saturday (the 23rd) there will be an extra trash collection to take away the yearly accumulation. This is in addition to the regular monthly collection on the first Saturday of each month. Paper and garbage will not be accepted as the policy is not to collect anything that can be disposed of by burning for hauling to the dump. This is the annual spruceup campaign in anticipation of the many visitors driving through during Garden Week. Upon complaints of abandoned and wrecked automobiles being parked in alleys and on the streets it was voted by the Town Council at the April meeting last night to enforce Chapter »XV Section 90 of the Municipal Code that calls for a fine of $5 to $25 for Obstructing Streets and Alleys unless these cars were moved during Clean-up Week. Dogwood Planting Day has been set for Friday April 22 and anyone desiring a small dogwood is asked to contact Council-woman Edna Wayland before the 22nd. The FFA boys have again agreed to undertake this as a project and their sponsor is F. S. Boze. Dogwood planted in former years as a part of this program are now making a tremendous showing and add greatly to the spring beauty of the community- tyA
suggestion was made this year to include redbud in the offer for planting and they will also be available but in a very small size as they are more difficult to transplant. George H. Davis, Jr. has offered to supply thg plants for this years planting.
