Panther Tales

These past two weeks 8th, 9th and 11th grade students have been engaged in the STEP and SCAT testing program. The teachers and students who are using them have worked hard. I know they will be glad when they are over. The Student Council Associa tlon met Tuesday to confirm the number of members who will attend the District meeting at Luray High School on October 1st. This year we hope to have a delegation of fifteen. This would certainly be an excellent representation for our school. Our cheerleaders are once again dragging out the pompoms and megaphones in preparation for a new basketball season. Last week old members of the squad and new candidates practiced after school for tryouts which were held Friday to choose a new cheerleader. The results were announced Monday and Jean Woodard was named as the new member of the group. Named as an alternate was Betty Jenkins. Mr. Wingfield has complimented several homerooms on their good attendance in the past weeks. I hope those rooms will try to uphold their record and the other classes will try to match it. I am sure it could be done with just a small amount of cooperation. Last week’s rain slowed work on our new wing of classrooms, but now work has resumed and things are progressing nicely. A new cement walk has been laid around the side of the building, the rtew rooms at the end of the iibtairy"4're beii^g"pafmefl, and a set of fluorescent lights were installed in the main part of the library.
