sociation records. Why do these conditions exist in our state? Henry A. Lowry, President of the Tuberculosis and Health Association of Northern Virginia stated “We have the drugs and all other tools to carry on an active program against T. B. But, is the public educated to combat TB? Perhaps, we just don't understand the problem,* Mr. Lowry went on to say. “The major problem with TB is one of finding cases. This means there needs to be concern on the part of each adult to have a chest X-ray and his children tuberculin tested. Part of the TB association’s program is directed toward educating the public to be concerned about health problems before they become problems, Mr. Lowry continued. Mrs. Gladys L. Harris, Executive Director, stated that each year the Association distributes health education materials to the physicians, schools, nurses and to the general publid. In order to continue an educational program it is necessary to have a successful Christmas Seal Campaign in the area, she said. The most popular item with teachers and children is the Health Adventure publication, geared to the reading level of pupils in the first six grades. Seven months a year different health habits are stressed in story, picture and puzzle format. A total of 163,450 are distributed during a school year in the eight counties served by this association.
