Army Private. First Class David M. Smoot, 20, whose mother, Mrs. Peaches V. Jen kins, lives in Huntly, Va., arrived at the Di An, Vietnam, base camp ^of the 1st Infantry Division, April 10. Before being assigned to a specific unit, Smoot received specialized training with the division. Training included field sanitation, civil affairs, mine and booby trap familiarization, re connaissance and ambush patrolling.
Smoot, a recciless rifleman entered the Army in October 1966 and was last assigned at Ft. Jackson, S. C. He is a 1966 graduate of Rap pahannock County High School, Washington, Va.
Marine Private First Class J. F. Pullen, son of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Pullen of Sperryville, is in Da Nang, Vietnam as a member of Maintenance Company, Maintenance Battalion, First Force Service Regiment, Force Logistic Command. Force Service Regiment’s primary mission is to provide sustained supply support to a division-wing air-ground task force, including isolated elements operating independently.
